NoVig Review
NoVig offers some of the most competitive odds on the market, even if you are in a state with legal sportsbooks such as FanDuel and DraftKings.
NoVig operates in a unique way as their are an exchange using the sweepstakes model. You will see some of the best odds in the market, along with the ability to request whatever odds you like which is a great tool for modelers.

NoVig: A New Type of Sportsbook
NoVig is a sweepstakes sports betting exchange that was originally operating as a licensed sportsbook. NoVig was briefly a licensed sportsbook in Colorado before pivoting to the sweepstakes model.

Why the switch? The sweepstakes model is MUCH better for exchanges. It allows for liquidity to be pooled across all states, which means users will be able to bet more on each market. Under the previous “traditional” sports betting laws, exchanges would have had to have separate products in each state, thus making liquidity much smaller.
NoVig allows bettors to play for free as well as real money. NoVig Coins allow users that are interested in sports betting to give it a try and see how it works without having to risk any money. I think this is an excellent option for people that want to get their feet wet in sports betting or just want to bet for entertainment purposes.

One common question for NoVig is: how do they make money?
NoVig makes money in two ways:
- Acting as a market maker where they are providing liquidity
- Charging a small fee on users that make over a certain amount on the platform
If you still have questions about NoVig and how they operate, they have an excellent FAQ video I recommend checking out.
NoVig Sports Betting Experience
When you open NoVig, it will look like almost any other sportsbook. You will see main markets odds (spread/moneyline/total), as well as toggles to view different leagues.

You can click on a matchup to see what other markets are available in the bottom right corner (“X more”). A nice feature of NoVig is that they will put a green dot next to markets that you already have an open bet on. This can be helpful to remind you what you already have action on.

When you click into a specific matchup, you can see a breakdown of all the markets. Main markets like Spread and Total will typically have toggles that will allow you to easily choose alternate spreads/totals. You can also click into these specific markets to see the odds history, volume traded, and current liquidity.

You can also see the tabs that show the available player prop markets. In this case there are Rushing, Passing, and Receiving player prop markets available.
When you click into a market like Moneyline, you can get more details on the odds history and volume traded:

This screen is very informative and is something that other sports betting platforms do not offer. Being able to see how the odds have moved as well as how much has been traded can be very useful information for seeing how the market has moved over time.
NoVig Liquidity
Once you click into a market, you can see the liquidity at each odds. In this example, you could bet up to $1,987 on the Chicago Bears moneyline at -279, $21 on the Patriots moneyline at +239, or $884 on the Patriots moneyline at +228:

One unique feature of NoVig is that you can request your own odds using the “Make” tab. In the example below, if I wanted to bet Bears moneyline at -250 for $10, I could create a market for it that would allow someone to take the other side of the bet (Patriots +250):

This is a nice feature that could allow you to place a limit order at whatever odds you like. This is a great tool for modelers/originators that know the number they need to make their bet a +EV play. It is also worth noting that these “Make” orders are offered at literally no vig. This means NoVig does not take any cut from the bet, and would be equivalent to if you were sitting next to your friend and had a handshake deal on a bet.
Matched vs. Unmatched Orders
Because you can offer bets at whatever liquidity and odds you’d like, it is possible that none, some, or all of your offer is taken. If you are offering $100 of liquidity on Bears moneyline at -250, and someone takes the other side (Patriots moneyline +250), for $50, that means only part of your “order” was filled.

This is perfectly fine and allows for more trading activity by not requiring someone to take the other side of the bet at the exact same amount you are offering. It is also possible that no one fills your open order. In this case, nothing will happen and you will simply have your money returned to you if the game starts with no fills.
NoVig Coins vs. NoVig Cash
You will notice at the top that there is a toggle for NoVig Cash and NoVig Coins.

Because NoVig operates under the sweepstakes model, they need to offer a free to play version. This is where NoVig Coins come in to play. These are free and can be used to practice or just for entertainment to see how you do. NoVig gives you 1,000 NoVig Coins to play with and test your skills.
If you want to play for “real” money, then you need to buy NoVig Cash. To get NoVig Cash, you need to buy extra NoVig Coins (silly, I know). When you buy more NoVig Coins, you get NoVig Cash as a “bonus”:

NoVig Cash is the currency that can be redeemed for US dollars. NoVig uses this model to operate legally under sweepstakes laws. I know it seems odd, but NoVig (and other sportsbooks) use this method to operate under applicable law, without being subject to all the requirements of a “normal” sportsbook license.
As mentioned previously, NoVig actually was previously operating as a licensed sportsbook. They switched to this model due to all the hurdles and fragmented liquidity associated with current state sports betting laws.
NoVig Liquidity
Liquidity is an extremely important factor when using NoVig. Liquidity is simply how much you are able to bet on a given market/side.

This is essentially the same as any “bet limit” that a normal retail sportsbook would have for a market. The big difference is that NoVig does not limit specific customers. Their liquidity is available to anyone that wants to take it.
NoVig is still relatively new, so liquidity is likely to improve from some of the numbers I am showing here.
NoVig Rewards
NoVig has some gamification built into their app with a Rewards tab. As you can see, NoVig offers small NoVig Cash bonuses if you complete specific challenges like Daily Login streak, placing bets on different types of events, etc.

This is a fun little tweak NoVig offers that I haven’t seen from other sports betting platforms. It is worth noting that you need to opt in to these challenges to be eligible. Just got to the Rewards tab and click “Start Challenge” by the challenges you want to be eligible for.

NoVig Deposit and Withdrawal Methods
Currently NoVig only offers the ability to deposit through connecting a bank account. They use a 3rd party called Trustly to make a secure connection.

NoVig is likely adding other, more convenient, deposit methods such as debit card and Paypal soon.
When withdrawing, it is worth noting that you need a 1X play through of what you deposited. That means if you buy $25 of NoVig Cash, you won’t be able to immediately withdraw that same $25 to your bank account.

The 1X play through means you will need to bet at least the amount you deposited to be eligible to withdraw. In this case, you would need to bet $25 in NoVig Cash before you would be able to withdraw that $25. There is also a minimum $20 threshold to withdraw, meaning you couldn’t withdraw any amount less than $20.
NoVig Platforms
NoVig offers apps on iOS and Android. You can find their website at NoVig.us, however they don’t currently offer their betting platform there.

NoVig Alternatives
If you don’t have NoVig available to you, there is one main alternative operating in the sweepstakes and exchange model: ProphetX.
NoVig Sports Betting Exchange Alternative: ProphetX
ProphetX has a very similar model to NoVig. The biggest difference is that ProphetX charges 3% of all winnings, so be sure to take that into account when looking at odds comparisons.
ProphetX also has slightly different age requirements and legal states, so be sure to check their site for the most up to date information.
